I’ve embarked on shooting the video for the Temple Chair. My process for shooting video has come a long way in the last years, especially thanks to tech advice that I got from Ben Strano. He’s not only a wiz at tech (if you don’t know Ben, he’s Fine Woodworkings media guy) but he’s super generous with his time and knowledge. I’ve had him on speed dial for a while. Like any endeavor, the real fun starts when you stop fussing around with tools and get to the creative part. My new process has just the right blend. As a woodworker, you are probably well versed in this dilemma. You need the right tools and know how before you can start building. I spent years in the gathering part of the woodworking process, both in tools and knowledge, before I felt that the tools were working for me and not the other way around.
Below is the rough cut of the start to the series I am shooting. I have no idea how long the video will be, I’m guessing at least four hours (I’m at 90 minutes and the parts are just roughed out!).
