This is the most informative tutorial about using a grinder that I've seen so far: the devil lies in the details and Pete nails it perfectly with the subtle techniques well explained. Merci beaucoup.

Thank you. Locating the optimum point of contact and not going back and forth is good information. I am still scared to death of my grinder. I pray before every use.

Ideas for future videos: I have problems making spindles octagonal at the fat part and would like to see some work on the dry erase board then up close to the spindle as you cut the wood. I know there are a lot of videos out there thanks mainly to Curtis Buchanan but they never demo on paper and then when he does them it’s never up close where you can see what is happening. I’m getting better by making fire starters but, I want to see you do it. Thanks

Great video, Pete. I woke up this morning thinking about making sharpening videos. Mind If I just use yours instead? I'll just have our editor plant my head in. Nobody would know the difference!

Picked up some good pointers from the video, namely blunting the edge and getting a decent aftermarket tool rest.

Thanks!

Thank you Pete. Your videos are very enlightening. I use the same Norton stone setup that you do. I’ve never done a hollow grind before, and I think that might be my go-to now. Also, I’d never heard of dulling the end of the chisel prior to sharpening. It all makes sense.

Very helpful video, Peter. I didn’t notice the sound problems you referenced and the camera work was great. What about CBN wheels? I know you can’t shape them but they do help with heat dissipation.
