I was going to recommend Stolen Focus by Johann Hari. It talks about his addiction to screens and also how the idea of multitasking and split focus is pretty much a myth.
This is such a helpful post. Focus deeply on one thing. I have been dragging my feet on a project because the next step is tapered sliding dovetails in quarter-sawn oak and I have very little experience with that joint. I don't want to make a costly mistake that is visible. Stalling means that I have to start from scratch mentally each time. This gives me a new approach.
Your comment about how students love to finish a project is spot on Pete. For me, it's because it's a rare luxury in todays "rise and grind" mentality - a week focused on a single task without your phone or laptop in your face. That kind of immersion is basically impossible in today's world. Never ending multitasking is bad for the brain and the soul.
Just finished reading “Slow Productivity: The Lost Art of Accomplishment Without Burnout “ by Cal Newport. I feel your pain.

Wow! What a transformation. That last picture is way intense. Congratulations on such a great job.
It has come a long way Pete and it looks fantastic!
Work hard for the things you want, take time off to enjoy the things you worked hard for.
I think you need a vacation & a few days to recover, physically & mental health days
It's really lookiing great! I especially love the contrast between the wood ceiling and the plaster walls. What is the flooring on the first level?
Thanks! It’s white oak

Thanks for your comment, I love hearing that I’m not alone!

That Eames rocker I didn’t expect. Fits beautifully in that fantastic space.
Thanks, I put it in every pic I can because Follansbee hates it!
