Peter,

I really identify with your attitude and method. Unlike my smart and beautiful wife, I am not a great planner/ organizer. I ofter say “Start it and the way will become clear!” or “We will stumble forward!”

Peter, I’m not sure I could explain how much I needed to hear/read this. I’ve spent the past decade of my day job as a project manager, feeling increasingly at odds with the need for command and control in that work. The results feel dead, the relationships transactional at best. Thanks for the reminder that there’s a better way.

I’ve been plagued by the scarcity mindset all my life. I know where it comes from. Thanks for the nudge to move beyond it. A mindset of abundance promises freedom to explore. Congrats on the new shop and I look forward to making big messes in there and sweeping up what falls away.

Ha! Speaking of not fearing mistakes...that's "icing," not "ocong!"

Oh my goodness. I simply cannot wait for my first chance to sweep that new floor at the end of a class day...oh, what a thing to celebrate! And the advice to forget one's self-consciousness...just ocong on the cake (or the Lil:s Crullers). So happy for you and for all of us who will get to learn in this splendid and welcoming space!! ❤️

The perfectionist core of my mind went into spastic shock at the thought of unbridled freedom. Luckily, I am learning to “numb down” such ridiculous fears. Has taken awhile, but progress, even tiny, is all good.

Snow!?! Spring in Maine was about June 4th as I recall. But I only noticed when moose calves got stuck in the mud behind my house.

As a master of having multiple projects going on at the same time, I'm not a great planner either. What I end up doing throughout the day or how the chair ends up looking, has sometimes very little to do with the beginning plan.

I like the small sketch books myself. I don't feel bad "wasting" a page or two since they're fairly inexpensive. But I don't do enough doodling like I should be. Thank you for the words and the push.

Sorry for commenting here so long after the post! I am designing a chair and really find your post from Jan 11 on creating orthographic projections helpful. I would love it if you were to do a follow up on how to go from generating a plan view (which gives you sight lines, unless I’m confused) to extrapolating the angle to bore at. I have seen a couple articles you wrote many moons ago, one showed some drawings using a vertical and horizontal line, the other used your sight line rule. I will try to understand those articles but I think you could make a video here that people would find very helpful. In any case, thanks as always for the great content!
